Korys is the investment company of the Colruyt family and currently looking for an Investment Analyst. Today, it has more than EUR 4.5 billion of assets under management. Besides holding a significant participation in the Colruyt Group, a leading retail company in Belgium and France, it actively manages participations in privately held companies and in private equity funds. Korys has also set up proprietary funds to manage its portfolio of listed investments. Across its activities, Korys’ investment decisions are taken with a long-term perspective and on basis of strict economic (Profit, social (People) and ecological (Planet) criteria. Korys aims to create sustainable value in 3 major ecosystems: Life Sciences, Energy Transition and Conscious Consumer. To do this, Korys can count on a motivated team of 30 professionals based in Belgium and Luxembourg.

The Life Sciences private equity team focuses mainly on direct venture capital investments but also manages a portfolio of Life Sciences venture fund investments. They focus on technologies that provide sustainable improvements in the biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and agricultural sectors. Their extensive reach and expertise in the sector allows them to contribute more than just capital. As a result, they have backed some of Europe’s most successful Life Sciences companies and fund.

Function

Due to continuous success of their current direct and fund investments, they have some grand ambitions with our life science portfolio, and they will recruit an Investment Analyst that is looking to broaden the expertise in this area. You will work under the guidance of a partner and two colleagues. Under their mentorship, you will build up great insights into the Life Sciences venture capital industry, and you will learn about investment decision making in the broadest sense of the word. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the investment teams of Korys and its strategic partners to source, analyse and monitor investments: participations in privately held companies (direct investments, mainly venture capital) and private equity funds (fund investments)

Participating to all phases of the investment cycle:

  • Pro-active mapping of industries, industry dynamics, drivers, technologies and players of interest
  • Pre-investment analysis of target companies (science and technology, market, position and strategy of the company in its market, financial analysis and valuation)
  • Support deal structuring and transaction negotiations
  • Performance and exit monitoring
  • Present and discuss opportunities at investment committees
  • Support portfolio management and investment strategy (buy/build)
  • Liaise with Colruyt family, Colruyt Group, OMX Venture stakeholders and other life science venture capital funds and external advisors
  • Networking and taking part in industry and Venture Capital events
  • Bringing key elements to build an integrative view on the strengths and weaknesses of companies, both from a scientific and competitive point of view
  • Making clear recommendations towards the managing partners based on this information
  • Taking part in deal “origination” by providing high quality scientific support

Requirements

What are they looking for?

This is a very entrepreneurial role and requires a strong degree of autonomy in the day-to-day work. Having the urge to learn, adapt, and do is very important to the organisation. You will need strong networking capabilities since in most cases you will need to acquire information from outside of your own knowledge sphere in a multidisciplinary and multi stakeholder environment. Communicating clearly and quickly grasping the essentials of concepts that are outside of your comfort zone are expected in this position. Furthermore, we expect a:

  • Master/ PhD in Life Sciences complemented with a degree in economics or finance
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience or exposure to the segment(s) of Life Sciences
  • Good analytical skills with previous exposure to finance and/or investments in general
  • Broad interest in different life sciences areas and translational research
  • Collaborative down to earth attitude
  • Resilient/adaptive; remains calm and deliberate under any circumstance
  • Eligible to live and work in Belgium
  • Fluency in Dutch, French and English
