Vacancy Maintenance Lead – Ghent


For a unique R&D organisation in gut and bowel health, we are seeking a Maintenance Lead. They are unique for two reasons. One, they provide contract research and develop their own products with some of them already in clinical phase one and two, they develop a technology platform for gastrointestinals simulations, making the study of physicochemical, enzymatic and microbial parameters easy. They are growing and aim to be one of the biggest CROs worldwide, so they are now looking for a Maintenance Lead to make sure they can keep going.


From a maintenance perspective, you:

  • Ensure optimal laboratory instrument up-time by reliable qualification & preventive maintenance programs
  • Ensure, in interaction with the lab manager, that facilities and instruments are configured according to the supplier, regulatory & HSE guidances for the performance activities
  • Are the first point of contact for all lab personnel in case of technical issue or incidents with laboratory instruments
  • Are inventive, hands-on & efficient in creating solutions
  • Maintain a good relationship with service engineers of suppliers and escalate when required
  • Maintain the lab continuity by providing technical guidance and support as needed
  • Provide technical instrument training to expert users within the team

And from a Purchase & qualification point of view, you:

  • Are supported by a team of experts and the lab manager, you define user requirement specifications for new investments
  • Select in interaction with the lab manager suppliers that have instruments, materials and services complying to the URS (User Requirement Specifications) & negotiate on contract & budgets
  • Define initial qualification requirement and preventive maintenance schedule. In collaboration with QA and lab management
  • Support QA & lab management with documentation in our quality system
  • Manage the central stock of instrument-associated materials
  • Ensure supplier & back-up suppliers are qualified


The ideal candidate has the following background:

  • BSc/MSc technical engineering or comparable by experience
  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment, hands-on experience with chromatography analysis. Experience with other analytical methods and equipment (e.g. molecular analysis, flow cytometry, biochemistry) is a plus
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team player that can work independently
