Vacancy VP Translational Science – Paris


26 OCT ’22: For a highly innovative Clinical stage Gene Therapy Biotech focused on the development of cutting-edge treatments for rare neurological disorders we are recruiting for a VP of Translational Science.With this progress in the clinic, the several other programs at play, and the recent collaboration agreement set up with a strong leading partner, the time has come for the organisation to hire a scientific leader to join as VP Translational Science.


In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, you will act as a key member of the executive team, providing expert scientific expertise into overall corporate strategy and key day-to-day operational decisions. This gives you an opportunity to assume responsibilities for the preclinical translational research on both preclinical and clinical-stage assets and allows you to contribute significantly to the scientific vision of a clinical-stage, well-financed, fast-growing biotechnology company and galvanise its strategic direction in Gene Therapy research.In this challenging position, you will work as a strong partner with the CEO, the Management Team, the Board, the Scientific Advisory Board, and external scientific advisory committees to identify, establish and implement research initiatives and take on the overall responsibility for the translational research of the company. All while also building a strong translational research group and taking the lead with a hands-on attitude on the advancement of the projects.As this is a technology platform-driven company, you will also contribute to the successful continued development of the platform, as well as the emergence of new product candidates. To be more precise, you can expect the following key accountabilities:

  • Drive growth and innovation through continually seeking and implementing innovative solutions; create a culture that thrives on continuous growth; inspire people to stretch beyond their comfort zone; take well-reasoned risks;
  • Lead the development of Gene Therapy Research in Neurodegeneration and retinal degeneration to identify opportunities and bring them forward by leveraging the organisation’s unique and proprietary technology platform;
  • Provide day-to-day scientific guidance to a motivated team of project leaders, managers, research scientists, and biologists;
  • Provide strong leadership, mentoring, and development of the science team in line with the values of integrity, transparency, and development of its people;
  • Ensure scientifically and independent rigorous review of projects at initiation and throughout their course and ongoing improvement and refinement of processes for the scientific evaluation of projects;
  • Lead scientific due diligence and partnership efforts to identify and validate new opportunities and manage resulting external partnerships with key collaborators and research partners;
  • Interact (as required) with external audiences including scientific experts, patient/care partners, investors, media, etc;
  • Define, design, and drive together with the CMO the translational research.


As the ideal VP Translational Science, you will have experience in the Industry R&D management or biopharma, as well as extensive experience in drug discovery and early-stage translational work.recognise yourself in the below profile:

  • Ph.D. with 15+ years experience, with a strong record of scientific accomplishment; a scientific background in neurology and /or gene therapy;
  • Strong scientific leadership in which you have worked closely at the interface of biology, technology platforms, and clinical research to catalyse the discovery of new products that can benefit a broad range of health conditions;

In terms of personality, you will be required to have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, entrepreneurial mentality, hands-on attitude;
  • Resilient; you remain calm and deliberate under any circumstance;
  • Passionate to really create transformative Gene Therapy medicines that will help the patients and families that have been devastated by different genetic/rare neurodegenerative diseases.
